@all: So... Didn't get the Talking Machine effects pedal for Christmas? Maybe this will help.

If you've got the ipad, and Theremini talking to each other, go into the Theremini editor, and pick a preset you don't care about, and adjust to the following settings:

Set waveform to Etherwave, and all scan knobs to zero.

Set filter type to Lowpass, Cutoff to 12:00, Resonance to 2:00, Pitch track to 3:00

Set Delay type as desired, and effects knob as desired.

I've also managed to find some very good theremin tones like a flute, the dark, spooky oowie tone like on the Etherwave Pro, well sort of, lol, and a pipe organ tone. Looking to produce a nice string tone. Also found the buzzy theremin tone. Grouped them all at the top of the list to be easy to find. Zeroed out the effects so they're like a normal theremin.

Oh, these, and other tones I'm working on sound best when note range is set for Low=c0, Hi=d7. Set Theremini to theremin mode for easy pitch / vol adjustment.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for Theremini settings to try. I made the changes using the Windows Editor, that I notice has not yet been released to the public by Moog.

With the firmware update, as a beginner, I have found the Theremini much easier to play.  For playing tunes I can now watch the notes on the Theremini display as I play.  The notes are more stable and easier to find and hold than before the update.

Do you have any plans to sell Presets for the Theremini?

Hello. I really need to get hold of that windows editor soon.

I will likely keep the presets freely available. There's not "that" much work involved in making a preset. Just spin some knobs, listen, and tweak. So, yeh. It's a community driven instrument, so presets should be kept in the public domain. I think.

I've actually spent several hours on this preset. I think I've managed to roughly approximate something that's a cross between Clara's theremin, and an RCA theremin. It's a bit bright for Clara's, but the basic tonal characteristics are there. Stick to the range the original instruments offered, and you'll be there.

I call it THEREMIN RCA

In Theremini's note range setup, set LO-C0, and HI-C6, or C7. Best with C6.

BASIC MODE SETTINS

Waveform=Animoog1, Scan Rate 6.4Hz, Scan Amount=zero(full left), Scan Position 0.81

Filter Type=NOTCH, Cut off=55.12 percent, Resonance=zero(full left), Pitch Track= –800 percent (full left)

NO DELAY EFFECTS APPLIED, ALL ZEROED OUT, FULL LEFT.

VOLUME ANTENNA FUNCTIONALITY:

ADVANCED SETTINGS

Wave Scan Amount=-400%, Wave Scan Rate=-400%.

Volume 100%, or as desired, Filter Cut Off=2 percent, Filter Resonance=40 percent.

Nothing done with pitch antenna response.

Enjoy!

Current settings for note range are: Low=C0, HI=C7. Hower, this can be set for HI=D8, and get nice tones in high notes, too.

Thanks Thomas,

Great Job!  Your "Theremin RCA" preset sounds so much better than the "Classic Theremin" preset that comes loaded on the Theremini.

For Antenna Volume you show "7:00".  The control knob in my editor begins at 7:00 (full off) to 5:00 (full on). My guess is that it should be set to around 2:00?

Thanks again,

Gary

@Gary Honis: Glad you like the new preset. Still a wee bit of tweaking to do to darken it more towards Clara's instrument, but close enough for now. Regarding the volume knob at 7:00 position. Could do, just thought it safer to leave it where it defaulted to for the time being. I'll have a go at setting it to your suggested setting today when I tweak the preset a bit.

just to get it clear, for the knobs: full left=-400%  and zero(%?) would be then in the middle position. so what's what?

btw: to get an idea of some user contributed presets.:moog forum. or directly here:http://animoog.org

u will see, that it looks like future user contributed presets are looking for a home somewhere, probably at git-hub, sooner or later. it would surprise me, if there is enough space on tw for a theremini library of some sort. space and acceptance are limited.

a thomas grillo classic thereminvoice library on the way?

did you solve your recently mentioned staccato issue?

@xtheremin8: Yeh, I've gotta stop saying "full left / right", and actually put the mouse on the knob, and read the values in the tab that appears more. Bad, and old habit. Sorry. Will amend post shortly to show those values exactly.

So, yeh, I think once there's a good repository for presets, that's where we'll need to store them for the public, and simply link to them in the forums here, to save bandwidth for TW.

Yeh, I am working on replicating a small number of my favorite theremins in the presets, so once I find a good place to post the actual presets, you can expect a small collection of my own presets designed just for vintage, and not so vintage theremin emulation in the presets.
