I would be interested in this discussion.  While I play both piano and guitar, and have used audacity in the past to record my singing, I'm a novice at recording backing tracks for theremin, and don't know how do do the magic melody subtraction you describe on a MIDI file, either.  Oh, why did I get interested in an electronic instrument?

OK. I'll start another thread and maybe do up a MIDI example of what I am talking about.

OK. I created a thread on how to diddle with a MIDI file to easily and quickly create accompaniments. We can move discussion of the topic there now.
