Johann Fritz Gutenmyre's Fantasy for Theremin

Did anybody catch this April Fools video on YooChoob?

So the foolish part is Johann Fritz Gutenmyre never existed?  If that's the case it's fairly inside humor.

Funny how I believe I can tell the music in that video was likely digitally recorded with fake record surface noise stuck on top.  Call me a heretic, but LPs never sound as detailed and pristine as CDs and the like.

Remember when Moog Music posted an April Fools video of the so-called “polyphonic theremin”, featuring thereminist Dorit Chrysler? Over the years, many people have fallen for the gag because the video was never removed from YouTube after April 1st, and it has been re-posted numerous times. I have personally had dozens of inquiries from noobies asking me where they can purchase one of those polyphonic monsters, and how much they cost!

I will say one thing about the video - Ms Chrysler never sounded so good! 😃

Yes it's inside humor. Since all Thereminists see themselves as musicians, it seems to be well placed in a Theremin forum. 

It needs a little more insider knowledge to understand that Noah Silverstein was most probably inspired by idea of the famous but fictitious 18th century "van den Budenmayer Concerto", an invention of Polish composer Zbigniew Preisner and film maker Krzysztof Kieslowski, which plays an important role in the film "The double life of Veronique" (1991).

For me, the foolish part is that the instrument on the recording is not a real theremin. It has the same expressionless, robotic feel that the "theremin" had in the movie MARS ATTACKS, and the “orchestra” is obviously a synthesizer.

Like President Trump, I feel "somewhat vindicated". I never refer to myself as a musician - only as an ENTERTAINER.

Ha!  There was so little Theremin in that piece I didn't even catch the obvious phoniness of it.
