As some may know my theremin journey begins with knowing Paul Tanner who once apologized to me that so many people thought his instrument in "Good Vibrations" was a theremin, when he only called it “Paul's Box”. Today people seem willing to call anything a theremin that does not use the "Theremin Phenomenon", the discovery of Lev Sergeyevich Termen circa 1920.

There was magical coincidence in the “2020 - 100 Year Celebration”, that I would even finish my build in time. Following that event I had the rare opportunity of a 17 year old kid contacting me needing help with building his vacuum tube theremin. His name is “Tanner” Packham and lives about 20 minutes from me. He is in his second year at MIT so no time right now with also working to explore my silly ideas. Visit his YouTube channel, he is simply amazing!

The large antennas on Mr. Packham's theremin should allow a great sensitivity to control inputs from the player.

Hello ka4koe,

The antenna in my own design plays a more important roll in how my sound comes about than most seem to understand.

To figure out the classic sound I first had to get the Theremin Phenomenon properly working using vacuum tube oscillators on the front end followed by a LM358. I can’t play but still the sound is alive.

My hope in my new friend gets the bug to explore this stuff.

This is Philip Neidlinger, KA4KOE. I like the voicing of your theremin. What are the freeks of the respective pitch and volume oscillators?

 Hello Philip,

I put together a summary of my research so my MIT student can arrive at the Theremin Phenomenon quickly. I will send the link to this summary in a TW private message.

I got my Ham license around 1975, the test was vacuum tube intensive, today they give the license away for little effort. I let mine expire around 1985.
