Theremin London

Hi everyone.

I've been playing theremin for a little less than a year(so I am in no way good, yet, but I love it!) and am based in London, UK... and I haven't yet met any London-based thereminists, something I find truly baffling, seen the amount of people playing theremin in other large towns (for example: New York). I have seen theremins at London gigs a couple of times, but generally these are "novelty" theremins or played as novelties and the people owning these only whip them out occasionally to use as sound effects devices at gigs and such.
Would any London theremin people like to organise regular get-togethers?
If so, get in touch?:o)

I'm working on a couple of things at the moment. There's the Hands Off symposium weekend next year - the current plan is Oxford (plans can change) and your attendance is compulsory!

Also I'm in the very early stages of arranging to host a one or half day experimental theremin workshop in an arts centre sunny Windsor at some time. That's in the hands of my label, so it will certainly happen before the universe collapses, freezes or rips apart, but it is hard to be more precise than that. I am hoping sometime next year too.

Hopefully with a bit of publicity we will be able to shake some London folks out of the woodwork and find out if there are enough for something small and regular. That would be neat.

A thought - Mark Pilkington of Strange Attractor arranged a theremin workshop at The Horse Hospital in 2001.

He is still actively interested in theremins - he arranged a Strange Attractor event this May at The Bethnal Green Working Men's Club which included Bruce Woolley playing his ePro. (Apparently because London based Rachel Hamilton (AKA Ninki V) couldn't make it.)

I would call myself a beginner too, as i have been playing for about a year and will likely never get very good as I suffer from tendinitis (and I have been unable to play for the past month as my right wrist in swollen and sore from having to lift boxes in my recent house-move), but I love the theremin and take it very seriously as an instrument, and don't just "play with" it (as opposed to *play* it).
Since I posted on this forum, i have also been contacted on MySpace by a thereminist who lives in my area! We should definitely all organise something. it would be GREAT!

PS
Sorry for not replying straight away (except to Gordon, who also contacted me on MySpace)... but I have been busy studying/working and then away from the country...
