Hello, im steve and im from toronto, canada.
Ive been a fan of all forms of electronic and experemental music for my entire life, and ive been wanting to take up the theremin for years now.

Recently i attended an experemental music festival and there were a few thereminists there, but the one that most inspired me the most was Dorit Chrysler.

After that i knew i had to add a theremin to my studio, and learn to play it as AN INSTRUMENT rather than as an expensive noise machine.
So i went out and got the etherwave 'kit' and assembled it and immediately started to find out just how hard it was just to play a simple scale.

Ive been going through the instructional videos from Lydia Kavina and Peter Pringle and pretty much having a really hard time getting the hang of the two styles of fingering, but i didnt get into this because it was going to be easy, now did I?

Anyways, its going to be a while before i am ready to add any theremin content to my music, but i am definitely more than willing to study this thing until i can.

Hello, I'm Alex, from Bristol in England.

I've been playing the Theremin live for about a year now and I've gradually started performing. Earlier this year I booked Pamelia Kurstin to play in Bristol and seeing it was a kind of catalyst for me to get my live act together. I played a really nasty gig in Bristol where I almost got beaten up (case of wrong place, wrong time for the theremin really!) and then travelled up to London and got a wonderful reception doing a gig there. Since then I've been working on booking more Thereminists to play Bristol and hoping to meet more people involved with the instrument. So hello :)

Evening squires. My name is Doug and I'm from Scotland. Im currently at St Andrews university and after exposure to this forum and other Theremin related parts of the internet I'm currently saving up to buy my first Theremin after my exams this month.

I'm hoping to be able to play theremin to eventually use it for making music, which is oen of my hobbies. I also think that its just such a cool device in itself. Everyone and their monkey plays piano or guitar. I want to learn something different.

Im plannign to get a Moog Etherwave. Problem is that they are a little expensive here in the UK, but I will have one!

Great forum that you guys here here too, hope to be able to become part of the community.

Oh yeah, I've already bought Peters DVD and was also wondering if anyone knew of a UK seller for the Etherwave which isnt the Moog dealer lead to by the Moog website. They want £250 at Turnkey, which is about $500USD, so its not exactly a fair transatlantic price. I'd buy from the states, but the PSU issues and the import taxes worry me.

After years of wishing, hoping, and dreaming, I got an etherwave kit for chanukah this year! Last winter I got a kit from thereminkits.com, which was fun to build (and an excellent crash course in circuitry reading and soldering) but it was nearly untuneable, probably due to the telescoping antennae. It made an excellent sound effect for my students' winter play (I am a music, drama and English teacher at a very small public school) but what I really wanted was a concert instrument. And now I have it! The progress is slow but steady, and I've already made my public debut with local band The Toughcats. My dream is to sing duets with it - we'll see.

Duggeh - Hi. Just noticed your posting. Welcome to theremin world. Er, yup - fifty quid over the odds - I don't think you'll find better than that.

Morerock - welcome too. :-)

Hi there, my name is Ittai and I'm from the UK. I've recently bought a theremin as I've been interested in them for some time. Also some friends of mine are in a band and wanted one as part of the line up, so I thought it would be a good reason to spend my student loan and get one.

At the moment I'm just getting a feel for the instrument, but hopefully in time I'm hoping to play it melodically as well as make cool effects with it.

:)

Hi Ittai - welcome to TW.

I "added" Silver Wizard Project over on myspace (recently, I think.)

Thanks for the welcome, Gordon. The stuff up on myspace are only demos, as yet without theremin. But I hope you enjoy it anyway :)

I really enjoyed your music, especially Unlit Airaids.

Hi my name is Chris. I am from NY and I write electronic dance music.
A friend of mine had picked up a homemade theremin for a class. She then gave it to me as a gift one day after I plugged it in to some effects and made some wild sounds.
