Great video with great audio! I'd seen some of that used in documentaries before; mostly the outside blowing up bits. I liked the plastic on the furniture. That'll save it from anything.

...As long as you secure it with plenty of duct tape you'll be OK.

Off topic a bit...A friend of mine tracked down a couple of local fallout shelters to see what became of them.

This is the same guy I got my Etherwave from. He also did a nice series of photos of old drive-in movie theaters and graveyards.

Thanks guys.

Edweird - that was the Marshall delay box you were coveting in action. I recorded it in one take - no multi-tracking or overdubbing involved, and the only thing I did to it afterwards was add a bit of reverb.

Diggy - Not so far from me is a road sign that reads "This Way To The Secret Bunker."

...and another video...

Hadal Zone.

I agonised over this one all weekend. Got it all prepped and ready to go, then took off the headphones and listened on the tiny little laptop speakers. No power whatsoever. Virtually no volume! Tried some other cheap speakers. Way too much power, just overloading all the time.

Huh?

Tried bigger speakers. Magnificent.

Looked a spectrogram of the music. Loads and loads of subsonics.

Aha!

My laptop speakers just ignore low frequency sounds completely.

My cheap speakers can't handle them at all but try to anyway.

On half-way decent speakers they add power and majesty.

So spent most of today filtering out different amounts of subsonics until I reached some sort of compromise that kind of worked on every different set of speakers I could offer it.

And here it is...

Ha! I covet your Marshall delay pedal no longer, sir. I bought myself one and it is glorious. So far just using it on guitar, but when I get done with this newest recording I'm plugging the Kees back in.

The new video is cool! The audio sounded pretty good on my Powerbook's speakers, but it definitely comes alive in the headphones.

A note on mixing: you're hitting on the right idea trying to mix for different speaker types. Most real studios have three and sometimes four different sets of speakers set up to listen to a mix, usually from big to small.

Gordon, thanks for posting these links. "Hadal Zone" fun to watch and to listen.

I ran it through my room monitors -- plenty of bass. :)

Besides having different sets of speakers in the studio, we always mix it down and spend a few days playing it through every system we have access to - homes, cars, portables, etc.

After that, a few tweaks here and there is all that is needed.

Gordon, I really have to update my internet service at home so it doesn;t take all night to download vidoes.

Work has YouTube blocked now so I will check out the vids when I get a chance.

Hi Gordon,
I took courage from your stellar embrace of the Theremin and have created and submitted a song to SpellBound.
I hope, that if it is broadcast, that you will render a critique. I respect your musical opinion most of all, having read many of the forums at Theremin World.
Thanks,
teslatheremin
