Another Jaycar Mod

A few days ago I've bought a Jaycar MKII kit on ebay and started building it.

I had problems wich were reported on  Diagnosing Jaycar/EPE/Silicon Chip/Kees Enkelaar Theremins topic and, inspired on Jason's mods, have decided to "upgrade" my MKII so that I could get more from it... Since my knowldge on eletronics is (really) too short, I knew I would have problems on addapting Jasons's mods, wich are made for an earlier version of this theremin, and Thierry helped me out with his schematics, designed on MKII schematics.

Meanwhile changes were being applyed I thought on a design to the cabinet... I had some wood from another project and decided to use it, a redish  brazilian native wood (called canharanha or cañaraña) and some pine wood for details, all inspired on Moog EW design... A picture of wood details and my first drawing (MS Paint) are posted bellow:

The cabinet is almost finished, I'll post news (and pics) as soon as possible!

 ggj1977(Dr Guilherme),  I did not recognize your level of discipline from viewing your very first post. Your woodwork is beautiful. Can you tell me the inside dimensions of your enclosure. The speaker at the bottom does have practical value, possibly something other than you imagine.

Thank you! I just varnished it minutes ago and as I made it "by eye", with limited wood stock, it's gonna be quite hard to take exact dimensions... But I surely post it as soon as possible! The speaker is at the botton for two reasons: 1- to be hiden, and 2- because I realy don't like those lots of holes as its on the original version... But I'll probably protect it with a metal computer cooler grid like this on the image below:

You must live on the coast of the So. Atlantic Ocean and it looks like you made a spear fishing weapon. This could come in handy the first public theremin performance you give. I understand the black paint and the question of leaving the wood natural. Black looks scarier!

 Edit: Just tell me the rough inside theremin enclosures height, width and depth +/-13mm.

ggj1977, the dimensions are excellent, I have a reason for this question. One day in the future when you are setup and comfortable with your theremin I would enjoy finding out more about your experience, the likes & dislikes of the Jaycar design. I had a bias against them until Thierry stepped in and enhanced  its performance.

I do not not recommend the Jaycar as few samples of it exists in performance after many years on the market. It is a good starter build to get practice at soldering. If an engineer recommended this model I would be suspect of their motives.

As soon as you are finished, please post some sound samples. Great job on the design and build.

Today I've finished 1st varnish layer and sanding... Next layer tonight and finishing cabinet untill the weekend... Mod components are gonna be a little late... Maybe in 10-15 days... :/
