"If the above is true (?) then I would add that a 60us beat period doesn't automatically mean anything in terms of the precision of the measurement of it.  What is the frequency of the clock are they using to sample the period?" - Dewster

Yeah - I didnt want to get too technical on that post - but my thinking was also on those lines.

The "60us" is meaningless - they could almost have taken any clock and quoted its period.. I was, to be honest, completely disheartened (but not surprised) by the total failure to even acknowledge the latency issue.. No, not disheartened - DISGUSTED!

I am actually getting utterly pissed off by the groveling of our community to the great Moog corporation - IMO its time that we woke up to the fact that THEY ARE NOT MOOG ANYMORE! - The ones now running the show are the ones who probably prevented Bob from advancing the theremin, who held him back for bean-counting reasons.. Moog Inc is not a friend of the theremin community, and Moog Inc is lying to us!

What does Mike think we are? We have SEEN the latency, its been reported by every player who knows their loop from their stick! --- To have the audacity to tell us that this is a 60us latency is just insulting!

I am no precision thereminist, but I can play a basic simple tune on a 555 based "theremin" with RC "linearity" - I couldnt play any tune on the theremini - the latency is there, palpable.. I remember GordonC visiting me years ago when I first started at TW - He was demonstrating his EW to me and the kids in our back garden, and one of the first things he demonstrated was a "wolf whistle"..

You cannot even do a passable wolf whistle on the theremini!

60us my arse!

ENANTIODROMIA!

A fancy word for the tendency of things to morph into their opposite. When the Great One dies (whoever it may be) the organization left behind usually falls apart and splits in two. Then the two sides go to war with one another. That is exactly what happened with Moog Music. It didn't take long for Bob's kids, as represented by the Moog Foundation, to fight very publicly with Moog Music over the stewardship of the archives.

When I showed the THEREMINI to my "inner Bob" I thought he was going to be furious and start moving furniture around and going "bump" in the night.

To my surprise, he didn't. All he did was laugh!.......and laugh....and laugh.....

Im sure that is what he would do..

Its the only thing you can do when utterly powerless.

And also, there is a really funny side to all this IMO  - It sort of encapsulates the whole absurdity of life..

However -

We are carnate - we can (and must) feel what we feel, say what we say, and do what we do..

And in that context, our "inner Bob" can "do something"..

But as to who's "inner Bob" is most "in tune with Bob"  that kind of gets into the same nonsense as the "inner Jesus" which always seems to "become" the same as the "vessel" containing it - Rarely do these "inner" beings actually disagree with and force a change on the "vessel" Oh, sometimes they seem to - but mostly I think these "inners" are just an ego trick to make one feel that you have "god on your side".

My "inner Bob" sees a funny side, but wants "his" work to be continued - wants only really good instruments to carry his name - wants the technical output of his life to be a resource for those who shared his passions - and wants, above all else, for those abusing his name to stop telling lies!

But those are all exactly what "I" feel - So perhaps (likely) theres no inner Bob - perhaps theres just "me".

Fred.

P.S. - Didn't mean to imply (above) that what I referred to as my "inner Bob" was somehow the discarnate spirit of the late Dr. Moog. It's more like my own faculty of imagination working with my impression of who the gentleman was.

From that standpoint, we all have an "inner Bob".
