I believe deletion of this thread would serve the interests of TW and the interests of all participants on this thread whether they realise this or not.

In my view it is a simple matter of someone presenting their observations and a hypothesis to explain their observations, and someone else describing different observations and their hypothesis to explain these.

It all comes down to the observations.

How this became a war is probably due to insanity in one or both cambattants.

But neither the observations nor the "war" serve any useful purpose to TW in my opinion, and the thread title names a TW member who has not contributed to this thread, and this is potentially misleading IMO.

There is as far as I can see, absolutely nothing of value on this thread... ok, the same can be said for many threads, but "void" threads which turn nasty serve no good function.

ok, I'll wait another 60 minutes, il there will be no objections until then, this thread will be deleted.

Why doesn't the person wanting my research deleted again, just delete his own posts?

This same scenario at TW has happened to me too many times in the past by the same person, before you pull the trigger again you need to evaluate what is really going on.

Edit: This thread was trying to invite livio over because he has a radio background and I thought it would be fun to exchange some thoughts as the theremin evolved from the same technology.

"This thread was created so I would not interfere with the others and educate the newbie." - RS

"Why doesn't the person wanting my research deleted again, just delete his own posts?" - RS

In my view, it is the role of ALL members of TW to "educate the newbie" and no one person has any right to post their "versions" or "truths" with impunity - this is a public site - If I see what I regard as missinformation being presented, I have the right to post what I regard "truth" to counter this, and should be free to do this without fear of personal attack.

I have no problem with argument, and have no problem with others having different opinions - I do however have a problem with discrimination against those with understanding of science or engineering, and any notion that we should allow an (IMO) ignorant individual free reign to recruit "newbies" to his particular brand of (what I regard as) a theremin cult.. Any "exclusive" thread where those who disagree with the originator can be hounded out simply because its "their thread" would be a bad idea.

The idea that  I should not get involved when I see this activity happening or what I believe to be falsehoods or at best hypotheses being presented as fact. Or that I should delete my posts and leave the dubious facts unchallenged doesnt wash.. Regardless whether its a "newbee" thread started by RS or a thread by anyone else - I avoid RS threads which discuss his research, but presenting "evidence" of "bubble behaviour" and linking this to Dewsters comments on capacitive sensing and then getting mad at me for presenting the fact that I had never seen the behaviour he described - well, I think perhaps I walked into a trap - Things had been going too well on that thread before this.

My reason for requesting thread deletion is that it seemed the only way to solve the problem - If I post a different observation, I get slammed - If I delete this observation, there is no balance.

I am ok about the thread remaining if my initial reply remains - A lot of posts which caused things to go sour have now gone - I still think this thread is a potential festering sore that serves no purpose though.

But if the thread remains it should be re-named.. Perhaps to "Dubious research and playground"

Because thats what this thread is all about now.

And because if Christopher was to actually do the experiments he has described, he would probably want this thread deleted as well... But he may only realise this if he uses a frequency counter on the audio to observe pitch change rather than trusting his ears.

<< This Edit was made AFTER this thread was closed ==>

Thierry, I understand your reason for closing rather than deleting this thread -

However, there is one problem with this that I am now demonstrating, and this is that prior postings can be edited - and this can (and likely will) distort the matter more, because (as already happened) existing posts will be edited and "padded" in order to effectively continue the argument or for combitants to present themselves in a better light. I only requested deletion when it was obvious that a nasty personal attack on me was starting - I have copied the entire sequence of all posts, most now deleted, which led me to "push the button" and call for deletion.

I tempted fate too strongly when I made that posting on the Digital Theremin thread where I slammed  EM and presented the case for capacitive operation .. Any mention of EM or capacitance here on TW seems to invoke a revenge attack (I think the Radio previewing thread narrowly escaped the same fate as this one) - and I think its impossible to talk about theremin operation in any other way than capacitance, and that no EM (or other phenomina) is related to fundamental theremin operation in any even slightly significant way, so perhaps theres no solution - If we cannot talk about how theremins REALLY work and are prevented from presenting observations which are different to what someone else has observed then theres a problem.

As I see it, ANYONE who posts ANY observation must accept the possibility that others have made different observations, and they have the right to present these and if they wish, any hypothesis they want to explain these.

Christopher was perfectly within his rights to post his observations and hypothesis, he had no right to get nasty when I posted my observations and said that I had never seen what he had observed.

But it gets down to the level similar to if TW was a site seriously discussing astronomy, and someone was to post observations and hypotheses to prove that the world was flat or that the sun rotated around it - Contrary evidence and scientific assessments would be likely (if anyone could be bothered) - Understanding of electronics is not as common as understanding (and universal acceptance) of our earths shape or place, so responding to strange observations and hypotheses is IMO important so that anomalies can be resolved and people can get at least valid or balanced data on which to assess any hypothesis.

And no one should be subjected to personal attack for doing this - I do not believe I made any personal attack or gave any insult to Christopher in any posting I ever made on this thread at any time - I have a copy of every post made on this thread, and have several from christopher which I believe bordered on abusive, and they were getting progressively more nasty.

actual decision: No deletion but closing and renaming of the thread.
