I'll be your friend, Gordon. I just need to remember/recover my Myspace password.

I signed up a while back but never really did anything with it.

I've been going back and forth on the idea of signing up for one. My next record is going to be made available for free in several formats, so maybe I'll actually do it. It's an anti-war/neocon record and since Murdock just loves our current administration sooo much...

btw happy belated 300th. The internet fairy's decided to yoink my internet for a bit, so I couldn't post earlier.

Thank you.

I shall try and provide a summary of my encounter with mySpace when I have an opportunity. At the moment I'm very busy encountering it as hard as I can!

One quick mention though. It was just such a buzz when my first be-my-friend request arrived! From the Lothars. How cool is that. JonB, you rock.

So, mySpace.

Welcome to the low rent district. It's not really for tourists, and if you move in you'll find it hard to move out. The landlords are greedy and unscrupulous; there are garish billboards everywhere, they employ second rate builders. The properties are prefabricated and dull, or tarted up with bright colours by the residents and daubed with graffiti by the locals. When school ends the streets are filled with kids and everything slows to a crawl. Inside the properties the amenities are primitive, badly arranged and occasionally unreliable. If you have the skills you can make the best of a bad job on the paint-work, but you'll never make a silk purse, and there's no scope to install fancy fittings indoors - if you're happy bathing in a cast-iron tub that's fine, but if you want a Jacuzzi be prepared to eat a lot of brussels sprouts and baked beans.

Having said that, provided you make the effort to search out like-minded friends there is a strong community spirit and plenty going on. There are nicer districts, such as tagworld.com, but they're a bit exclusive (cheeky blighters - apparently my browser of choice is incompatible with their website. I thought it was the other way around!) and frankly dahlings, if you don't mind slumming it, mySpace is just the must place to be.

That's the best description of MySpace I've ever heard or read. Brilliant! I'll be spending some time next week setting up an account.

Last night I got a lovely surprise. Whilst arranging to see my first gig in almost two decades, I wrote to the organiser asking if the car parking spaces outside the venue (Google Earth - love that program) were residents only. She answered, I said thank you, and she asked me if I was available to do a set alongside three other acts in the courtyard of The Courtyard Theatre (http://www.thecourtyard.org.uk/) in King's Cross. Other acts would be performing in the theatre. This was based on hearing my work on mySpace. (There is a link in my sig.)

I was absolutely flabbergasted! Someone who actually clicks on links in eMail signatures. Who would have thought it!

I had to turn it down of course - I am sure it would be bad for my health and know that I am not geared up for it in terms of equipment, repertoire or rehearsal anyway, and am unlikely to be in the foreseeable future. Besides - I'm busy on another project.

So - guess who has been in an excellent mood all day. I got offered a (nominally) paying gig out of the blue! You know, it's a really pleasant feeling.

Woo.

:-)

A man in demand!

Well, you see, now you're in the big time, being a featured artist on Spellbound, y'know. I mean, you'll be on the cover of Rolling Stone soon ;-)

Seriously - congratulations on getting to the Spellbound playlist - a healthy affirmation of your efforts to date!

Why, thank you JD. I was well chuffed at that.

And thank you to everyone in the chat-room for giving David a hard time about my name!

--

Haven't been doing much lately. Temperatures too high for standing and playing the theremin. Palindromically; too hot to hoot!

Things might improve though - I bought myself a high bar stool today so now I can sit and play.

--

And I think I have finally settled on some terminology I can live with.

1. Not "sound effects" - "strokes" (or "musical flourishes" if you prefer.)

2. For the precision playing of strokes, and complementary to "aerial fingering" - "aerial stroking".

So, once one has mastered both fingering and stroking one will be well on the way to penetrating the mysteries of the theremin!

Gordon, I don't understand what you mean by "Palindromically"..
