Etherwave component help

My sincere apologies, Blala - I completely overlooked those damn series inductors - perhaps because I have been looking so much at the EM version lately, where they arent fitted..

And as you are wanting to build your own EW, I was assuming you were using the EM circuit..

I do not know what the components fitted to the EW are - but almost any small RF inductors should work (these oscillators are extremely tollerant, and having an adjustable inductor in series means that tolerance required is not high)-

Probably best if some EW Engineer who has hands-on expierience was to advise you.. If Thierry doesnt show up, perhaps a visit to his workbench..

I'm building an EW following the "HotRodding" schematics but i stumbled upon a couple of threads where you mention that newer etherwaves have less and different linearization coils. In the first post you said that they are using 10+25+5mH on the pitch side (instead of 4x10mH) and 2.5+10+2.5mH on the volume side instead of 2.5+2.5+5+5mH) but in the first page of this thread you say Only 3 x 10mH on the pitch side instead of 4. Only 2 x 2.5mH and 1 x 5mH on the volume side instead of 2 + 2. I guess the latter is the correct/newer one.

I also found this PDF that shows some updates (i already bought the toko coils, next time: coilcraft) and shows the same values there too. Can you please confirm that the order and values for the antenna coils shown in the PDF are correct? :)

Some of these post are in fact outdated. Moog released several PCB and circuit variants during the 16 years of the Etherwave's existence, not all brought real improvements compared to earlier releases and were sometimes due to the temporary availability/non-availability of several components. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I will edit them during the weekend.

What is correct, newest and works best is:

Pitch side: 3 x 10mH

Volume side: 1 x 5mH + 2 x 2.5mH

The Bourns/Miller 63xx coils are not bad for that but the Hammond 15xx products will potentially give a wider pitch range and better linearity.

The frequency counter that you are suggesting will as far as I can see only accept TTL voltage levels at its input. It is thus not suited for checking sensitive oscillator circuits without a hi-Z preamplifier section. And then I have a doubt about precision. They state clearly that they don't use a xtal but the internal RC oscillator of the ATmega, which makes me really worry about stability.
