Theremin and jazz?

Thank you all. My worst fears were squashed yesterday - Having had several doctors thinking I had bowel cancer, and getting an emergency admission after being examined by the gastro specialist, well, I was not feeling too positive!

But they let me out after the op - there is nothing major wrong with my guts, a few biopsies were taken, but bowel cancer is almost completely ruled out.

And yes, there is something about this community which is unlike any other on-line community I have expierienced, difficult to put my finger on it exactly - but perhaps its that it feels more "real" (and also more caring) than anywhere else - I feel like I "belong" here - there are other people nearly as crazy as me, or whatever - It is nice to be back.

Just wanted to say that while I felt a tad like a preschooler sitting in on a graduate class regarding the sophisticated discussion here, I found what was said to be very interesting. And as a "noob" I look forward to attempt to find an elusive stylistic approach with a theremin that can positively agree itself towards one of the many sounds of jazz, even though coalport seems to think it cannot be done.

Coalport, do you not think that music designed for the saxophone in more of a blues vein would lend itself to be applied with a positive sound by the theremin?

They most certainly are. Use a amp simulator or a effects pedal to adjust timbre as per volume and attack.

Just to clarify my statement about jazz on the theremin - at last count there were over 50 different kinds of jazz. It seems to me the theremin might fit better with Avant-garde Jazz or Free Jazz, than with Dixieland or Ragtime.

The word “Jazz” has been so over-used that, by itself, it has become meaningless.

Well Peter, you got me there. I seriously doubt I could do any justice to the banjo parts. I used to love the Mickey Finn Show - now that was some fine banjo playing.

But I have more classical pretensions as you may remember, besides, they are all just notes and cliches strung together as per the artists whim.

As for the banjo, may I suggest using the EH Key9 filtered to take out the low frequencies.
