RCA, apparently noticing the increase in interest in theremins and in particular, their vintage AR-1264 model, has announced they will begin production a new line of theremins this year.
According to an RCA spokesperson, the new model will include several "upgrades" over the original RCA theremins, including a 5 leged cabinet for increased stability, a "voice" selector knob allowing the performer to choose between several timbres (including one rumored to have been created from digital manipulation of Clara Rockmore's actual voice), and an LCD flat screen to display sheet music while playing.
Pricing has not yet been announced, but based on the current market and recent sales of vintage RCA theremins, we can expect it to be in the range of $6000 USD.
