I have owned both of Masami Takeuchi's CD's for a year and they are among my favorites."Time Slips Away" is a collection of original, miniature, compositions for Theremin and piano. "Vocalise" is a collection of classical transcriptions.Masami's performances are warm, approachable, and listenable. His use of vibrato is understated -- he tends to use his excellent dynamic control to impart expression.Anyone who wants ideas for phrasing and expression would benefit from a careful listen to Masami's cds. Masami makes a case for the notion that the release of phrases is just as important as the attacks. It is easy for us thereminists to focus on intonation, attack, and vibrato without thinking about creating subtle and musical endings to each phrase. My personal favorite is "Time Slips Away" -- probably because it is Masami's own compositions. Both of these cd's are excellent additions to a collection of classical/tonal style theremin recordings.
