Thierry Frenkel's Etherwave theremin mod is now available for pre-order from Theremin.nl. If you'll recall, the modification adds a about 2 additional playable octaves at the low-end as well as improving the "dying motorbike" distortion you hear in the bass register, making the timbre much more consistent throughout the entire pitch range.
The modules will be officially introduced at the Theremin Summer Academy with Carolina Eyck & Thierry Frenkel in Colmar/Alsace/France, from June 9 to 13, 2011. Worldwide shipping will start immediately after that.
Personally, I'm very excited about this product for a couple of reasons. First, it as created by someone who has been extremely active in the theremin community and in our forums. It's great to see someone's passion and feedback from the community turn into a real product. Second, I'm excited at the prospect of more theremin modifications for popular models becoming available. Until recently, the only accessories you could buy for an Etherwave was a cat costume and Moog Music's CV and power LED mods. It feels to me like this is opening the door to new innovation in theremins.
