Rosen Caramoor Urata and The New Yorker

Nick Plays Caramoor's September Theremin

A few weeks ago we were contacted by John Seabrook from The New Yorker magazine asking for information on the theremin and historic instruments in New York City for his article and so he could arrange a fun theremin outing for DeVotchKa's theremin player Nick Urata as part of his interview. They ended up visiting Caramoor. Nick got to play their historic theremin and it and Lucie Rosen joined Leon Theremin as featured topics in John's piece.

The article appeared in the May 9th issue.

You can read it here if you have an online subscription. It's well written, accurate and has gotten a lot of attention for the theremin, Lucie Rosen, Nick Urata and is really spreading the word.

Now Caramoor has added a video of Nick playing the September Theremin built for Lucie Rosen by Leon Theremin in 1938. The last he built in America and some say his finest. (Safai users try FireFox to play it.) This is the event John described in his article.

Many thanks to The New Yorker, John, Nick, and especially Caramoor for featuring Lucie's theremin and history so much more.
